Hello, welcome to Vidyacast the smart doses of industries innovation!

On today’s episode, we’re going to talk about the process of creation of a digital twin!

The digital twin is a well-known technology, elected by Gartner as top trending technology, attracting this way the attention of many industries.

Basically, a digital twin is a digital replica of a physical object, fed with real-time data. Beyond that, digital twins could be implemented with the support of machine learning and analytics.

This way the technology turns out to be able not only as a tool for real-time operational overview but also as a tool for future simulations, and prediction.

But how are digital twins made?

The answer is not simple. A digital twin could be built through the gathering of multiple pieces of information such as:

  • engineering documents
  • drawings
  • manuals
  • and historical data

Another important source of data for a digital twin creation is field data, these could be extracted from the field by:

  • IoT sensors,
  • Inputs from operators and,
  • Laser scanning

The important thing about a digital twin building is that data from multiple sources are welcome. After the extraction of these data comes its organization so real valuable information is displayed on the digital twin, this step of the process is called data contextualization and turns out to be a fundamental part so the implementation of a digital twin is successful.
